TBH - 'Book Of Salms' Pro-CDR (Noecho) tBH emerged from the late-night jam sessions of Kris Klubo and Tim Shireman, former members of London industrial / electronic outfit The Brainhole. As the sessions progressed they took the shape of the album, "Book of Salms" - a five track project of dramatic and subversive frequencies, orchestrated to a backdrop of immersively, industrial ambience. THE OUTSIDER - 'Nekromusicritual' CDR (Sadisque) Based on the story by the American author H.P. THEE FREE - 'Welcome To Liberty City' CDR (Freenoise) The most inventive and progressive album so far from Thee Free. At times imaginative and always very free, even when soaked in (sporadic) heavy rhythms or walls of harsh noise. Mangled radio output and voice samples blend with abusive storms of coloured noise, drums, clarinet, flutes and heavy electric guitars make twisted and psychedelic appearances. Certain tracks show how the total (sometimes very gradual) deterioration of a 'tune' can amount to something just as, if not more, engaging. We are also offered hope from the words of a yogi in the midst of this warped sonic landscape during 'Juice Bug'... 'Coily' was recorded on the day of the announcement of Coil artist Johnn Balance's passing. The album title is in tribute to Mark Stewart and the Mafia's track 'Liberty City'. THY VIOLENT ENTITIES - 'Come To Dust' Pro-CDR (Palace Of Worms) Side-project from two members of the electro medieval act O Quam Tristis, with Emeric Lenotz. The album is based upon rare poetry from William Shakespeare. Thy Violent Vanities’ music is supported by ancient or traditional instruments: krumhorn, dulcimer, mandola, flutes… mixed to bass and guitars, laid down on soft waves of keyboards, electronic rhythm patterns and loops. This record is a gloomy one, but not as dark as you might guess. |

TRAVIS RYAN / DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS - 'Split' Pro-CDR (Chrome Peeler) Split release from two US acts: Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation, 5/5/2000) and Death By A Thousand Cuts. Travis Ryan's four tracks open the disc with an edgy, paranoid ambience that mixes environmental buzzes and electronic hum with blurry theremin melodies and hushed buzzsaw tones, evoking the faint but discernible hum of electricity you feel when standing at the edge of an urban landscape in the middle of the night. Death By A Thousand Cut's nightmarish free electronic designs are conjured from noxious bass sinewaves and cloudy keyboard drones, curling upwards out of metal-on-metal carnage and blasts of laser-beam effects-pedal violence, and the music becomes strangely beautiful, especially with the cosmic Troum-meets-Bastard Noise insectoid frequencies of final track "Approach Of The Black Claw". Ltd x 300 copies on a factory-duplicated CDR in cut & paste artwork (similar to RRRecords' Pure Series). |
